Alain Herrmann on EDPB’s Europrivacy Decisions
Interview with Alain Herrmann, CNPD Luxembourg
The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) took two major decisions that extend #GDPR certification to non-European countries. These decisions will facilitate international data transfers while enhancing personal data protection beyond borders:
1️⃣ the use of Europrivacy criteria as a European Data Protection Seal in non-European countries;
2️⃣ a specific version of the Europrivacy criteria to be used as a mechanism for international data transfers under Art. 46 GDPR.
We sat down with Alain Herrmann, Commissioner CNPD – Commission nationale pour la protection des données Luxembourg to address these changes and what they mean for the future of GDPR certification.
As he highlights: “This development reflects a broader shift towards more innovative and operational compliance tools under the GDPR. Certification has the potential to play a key role in supporting trusted international data flows, provided that it is implemented with strong safeguards and effective oversight.”
